Post 8D - Analysing Videos in our Music Genre

This is the video of White Winter Hymnal by Fleet Foxes. This is a song of similar genre to the song we have chosen.
The video to this song is completely unconventional and defies all the conventions of traditional music videos. The first of these conventions that it defies is the fact that the band are not featured at all in the video. The video is completely made up of stop motion scenes of strange figures and plants merging out of the ground. This is a very unusual way of making a music video and is unusual aswell for the indie genre.
There is also no particular narrative except the plastercine figures in the video appear to be controlling nature. They are shown to be turning big wheels and as they turn, plants spring up out of the ground and water trickles out of the hills as these little men are hard at work.
Overall i think the video is trying to have a psychedelic, interesting effect on the viewer and the choice to be unconventional works in favour with the music i feel.

  1. Is there a link at all between the visuals and the lyrics? Do the cuts work with the rhythms of the music? May be worth adding a little more analysis here and summing up how you think this typifies your genre's approach to music videos - creative and visually interesting?
