Post 8C - Analysing Music Videos in our Music Genre

Arctic Monkeys - Fluorescent Adolescent

This music video is set on what looks to be like an un used piece of land, near a block of flats or an industrial estate. There is a lot of voyeurism contained in this music video, because we can see the main band members dressed up in clown outfits and running round. Viewers of this video will be able to know it is from the indie rock genre because they follow the same conventions of other videos and images of the same genre. These include the dull, dirty bland look of the videos as there are no bright, happy colours. Also the urban setting of the video add to the conventions of a indie rock video.

There is no relationship between the lyrics and the video in this video. The video that is played doesn't contain any shots of a band member singing along to the lyrics or playing any instrument. The visuals create a performance.

  1. Can you develop comment on the fact that he video doe not connect to the lyrics ? What is the song about and what do we see? You could do with writing a little bit more - what else is typical of this type of video - does it use green screen and fancy editing or is it much more low-key - just straight cuts and location shoots? What about the pace of the music and the edits? Does it feature choreography? These things can all help you get the look and style of your video right for the genre...
