Post 7C - Analysing images of our Music Genre

in this post i will be analysing images of artists that are linked with the same genre of indie pop.
The artist i am going to look at is the Maccabees, they are a band of similar style to Bombay Bicycle Club and of similar genre.
This image has a vintage look to it, this is something that is commonly used in indie music and is likely to be done as a throwback to the retro roots of the genre.
Like bands of most genres the lead singer is positioned to the middle of the photograph. This is because he will be the most recognised of the band and for commercial purposes the photo will need to be recogniseable to the public.
the clothes that the band are wearing also fit in with the indie genre. Polo shirts and harrington jackets are all iconic styles within the genre.

The next picture is the band Friendly Fires. In many ways the photograph is very similar to the maccabees photo. One of these similarities is the vintage feel of the photograph. The colours are over saturated and mimic the colours of old, film cameras. The mise en scene also gives off a vintage retro feel  , the dancers costumes are very 1950's and the video camera that the third member of the band is holding is that of an old technology. Another similarity is that the lead singer of the band is in the middle of the photo to put emphasis on him. Also the lead singer is looking straight into the camera. This is likely to draw your eye into the photograph.

  1. Some good observation - maybe you could just sum up at the end the key features that are common to both, as these may be important elements for your own images to reflect?
