Josie Bury - Evaluation

Introduction
I have been part of a practical group of four students, Kirsty, Joe and Charlie from my Media Studies class. We chose the music project to create the music video, album cover panels and the advertisement print.

As a group we have all contributed to the Research and Planning development posts. I have also individually created posts such as;

Specific Contributions

I have completed the evaluation as a task on my own.

Question One
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media texts?

Evaluation - Audience Feedback on Digipack and Advert

We produced a questionnaire to collate audience feedback on our Digipack and Album advert. We asked questions that would separate genders and ages, to then see how different and varied the responses would be.

We gave this questionnaire to 20 people in our college of different genders, ages and music taste. We then collated the information and presented it on a PowerPoint presentation.

We also asked four students from our Media Studies class to film and document their verbal feedback after looking at our Digipack and Album advert, using the same questionnaire so they could expand on their thoughts and responses to the same questions.

Album Advert - Considerations

After the multiple considerations we have created for our advert we decided on this for our final advert. The only change to the editing of the previous edit is that we took the drop shadow off the text and kept it flat. We did this because we have kept the writing flat throughout the whole project which is keeping the continuity theme throughout. We also placed the picture on the right hand side and the writing starting from the left because of the map in the background, we wanted the audience to be able to see that the map used relates to the location as we filmed in Lancashire. Due to the layout being this way you can see "Lancashire" clearly in the background of the advert.

Album Advert - Considerations

We chose to merge an old map of Lancashire with an illustration of the artist. We considered this because it was relevant to the artist's recognition and where the artist is from.

We altered the Opacity level to 28%, this means the map that is placed on top of the illustration is at 28% of it's visibility. This technique allows two images to blend.

We used the eraser tool on the top layer (the map) this allowed us to bring out the the illustration of the artist and still have a faint background.

As an advertisement tells the audience the information of the release we kept the font that we have used throughout the production of the music video and digipack. This creates a reoccurring theme that audiences will recognize as it is part of the artists brand identity.

We experimented with a Drop Shadow tool on the text to see what it would look like and how it would contrast again the imagery. It did stand out and contrast against the flat background, however we didn't see the relevance of this technique as we had never used it in any text on the music video or on the album cover.

Album Advert - Considerations

For our album advert we decided to include the drawing of the image we took of our singer. This is because we wanted to keep with the alternative theme by doing something slightly different and include a  hand drawn image. The hand drawn image best fits half a page of A4 and so we decided to keep our outfit as a half page advert.
As we are trained on photoshop we decided to try and include an image in the background and change the opacity to 40% so that it is just slightly covering all of the negative space shown within the advert.

We chose the image of the trees because this is a photograph we took in the forest of Bowland whilst on location filming and thought it would be very appropriate to include part of the location in the advert. This is the first advert consideration we created.
