Ancillary task - Finished CD panel

This is my finished inside panel design.

Ancillary task - CD panel

The CD panel that i was designing was one of the inside panels, I decided to make this image a little bit more artistic as it wasn't needed for any information (e.g back cover/ front cover).  I took screen shots whilst i was editing the image to show in order how i copied and pasted the images, overlaid them, changed the opacity and used the eraser to rub out parts of the map from the subjects face.

Digipack Inside Panel

Original Image

The original subject matter has been replaced  by an illustration draw in pencil and layered on top of the original composition. The illustration is relevant but has a nice contrast against the woodland background.

Final compositions after editing on Photoshop.

For this experimental illustration I used the threshold tool on Photoshop to eliminate unwanted detail and focus on the main subject area - the artist. It also creates a contrast of black and white tones.

Advert Ideas

I have worked on a couple of designs that could be used for the A4 advert to advertise the bands new single "Jewel".

Ancilliry tasks: Magazine Advert

The second ancillary task that we have to design and produce is the magazine advert for our bands new album. These are just two examples of how we can lay out our advert, either a full A4 page or a half of an A4 page.  Both of the bands that these adverts are promoting are both classed in the same genre as our band. This research has helped us pick and design our advert making it appealing to our target audience. We have together decided that we are going to produce a full A4 side advert as we believe that it will capture the audiences attention quicker as they will have more to look at being on a bigger page. We are going to be including an image of our artist along with the same font we have been using throughout our video and digipak as to ensure consistency throughout our project.

Planning - Artist Name

We have chosen to use the name "White Well" for our artist, we gained inspiration for this from the name of the location we filmed in "Whitewell". In order to change the name of it to fit our artist we decided to change the name into two separate words " White Well". This name is relevent because it relates to the place where we filmed and also links within nature and outdoors with the "well" included.

Production Update

We have our initial footage but we still need to film our lip syncing sequences which we will do this week to try and achieve our final rough cut before christmas

Back Cover Track Listing Ideas

Here are some ideas we have designed. We altered the composition of the track listing to create different effects. We altered the initial image by adjusting the curves feature on Photoshop. This technique emphasized the red tones in the background scenery.

This was one of the first ideas we have. This is a very boring layout as there is no barcode and no contrast between the colours in all the text so it looks plain and boring.

We decided to add black to either the track number or the track name. This was because when they were all the same colour, it was hard to understand and you could not tell the difference as there was no contrast. We also added a barcode to make the rear of the album look more realistic.

We decided to put the track numbers in rows to make a change. We didn't like this layout as it does not compliment the background image.

This is our favorite layout. This is because the track names are in a position you would not usually find them. This makes the back cover unique and different to others. Although they are in a different position, they compliment the subject matter.

Front Cover Development

We attempted changing the colours of our images by desaturating them, unfortunately this did not look as good as we first thought and we felt it didn't fit with the "autumn" nature  theme of the band and album.

Front Cover Development

We are considering all of these designs for the front over of our album. In order to help us choose the front cover image we created a questionnaire to see which was the most popular in our target audience. We ended with the result that the last image on the grid (with the feet) was the most popular for the front cover, followed by the second image on the grid taken with the fish eye lens. We have decided to use the most popular choice as our front cover and will continue to develop and edit the image.

Background Considerations for Digipak Panels

Whilst out filming we took some images of our artist which relate to our video to use as some considerations for the album cover.

Video editing

As part of our editing on our film we have decided to use an idea inspired by the video on the left. At the start of the video the production company, artist, and song names are introduced but are done in an interesting way. The text is overlaid over the video and the text is bold and 'in your face'. We found the font we wanted for our video on 'dafont.com' and imported it using 'fontbook'. We will also be including the same font in our ancillary tasks so that we are showing a continuity theme throughout.

Video editing - Rough cut development

This is the first rough cut of our music video, we dont yet have our lip syncing footage added in yet.
